The World's Most Realistic Milk Scent Has Two Sides

Crema di Latte delivers the most literal milk smell you can imagine. A lot of reviews mention its "surprising sweetness," but to me it's not surprising at all. Milk should be sweet. Perhaps what is a little surprising is that Hilde Soliani has gone boldly forth and included the slightly tangy, salty dairy aspect, too.

Those notes are fleeting, though, and they quickly mellow into a creaminess that leans toward a delicate nougat scent. It's airy, yet feels indulgent.

Her milk scents always capture the softer side of Hilde Soliani, but in no way at the expense of glamour. There’s nothing plain about Crema di Latte, but its simplicity is, instead, refreshing.

The brand describes this fragrance as a warm milk for cold winter nights, but my take is a little different. For me, this smells like fresh, cold milk on bright afternoons. This fragrance finds you on a sunny terrace, sipping your cool glass of milk through the thinnest straw, while the world quietly moves around you. It's girlish, yet undeniably chic. It is the balance between softness and sophistication.

There's also a definite playfulness in its sweetness. Yes, it’s milk—an unconventional choice outside the realm of breakfast or childhood, but if you feel unapologetic for not thinking about your age when choosing what to drink, this may be for you. Isn't there something fabulously cool about being an entirely put-together adult who hasn't lost their sense of youth?

Depending on the depths of your imagination and where you wanna take it, you can get a vivid childhood image from this, if you want to, instead. I'm a firm believer in using scent as a mood setter, a costume, a time machine...if you're nostalgic for the pastels of a playroom or a nursery (or maybe you're actually expecting a baby), you can go in that direction with Crema di Latte, too— it's there, the invocation of childhood cups of milk, plastic toys and playing on soft, clean rugs. Or maybe you're just into the kawaii look, and then this scent could add an extra fun layer of complexity to your persona.

The perfumer's intention of bringing you the coziness of a winter night is also there—but Crema di Latte can just as easily evoke the brightness of an early spring day or carousels and taffy. You can choose to wear this scent as cozy, chic or whimsical, and that makes it a wonderfully flexible addition to anyone's scent wardrobe.
